Barry Sheene, arguably the most iconic British racer in MotoGP history, is set to have his legendary championship-winning Suzuki RG500 auctioned at Bonham's this April, giving people the chance to own a piece of incredibly rare motorsport history.
Sheene, who won the 1976 and 1977 premier class titles, passed away back in 2003 but remains one of the iconic legends of MotoGP's highly decorated history.
Often described as the
James Hunt of MotoGP, Sheene was as famous for his off-track antics as he was for his achievements on it.
Usually seen at the front end of the grid with a cigarette in hand just minutes before lights-out, Sheene was also a celebrity icon who was regularly seen hanging out with members of The Beatles, and was also
famous for his controversial relationship with then-married supermodel Stephanie McLean.
The bike, which represents the golden era of Sheene's career and was ridden for seven seasons between 1974-79, is expected to fetch up to a quarter of a million pounds at the upcoming Bonham's auction.
The auction is set to be held as part of the International Classic Motorcycle Show being held at the Staffordshire County Showground and will take place from 25-26 April 2026.
The event is being described as a 'once in a lifetime opportunity' for dedicated collectors, who can buy the iconic Suzuki bike complete with Sheene's number seven on the front.
In addition to Sheene's bike, there will be up to 90 other classic motorcycles up for auction, so there is plenty of opportunity for
enthusiasts of motorcycle history to own a legendary piece.
