F1 LIVE | Leclerc leads ahead of Norris in FP1

The Azerbaijan Grand Prix offered a new twist to the drivers’ and constructors’ championships. While McLaren are well on course to wrap up the latter, Mercedes have jumped ahead of Scuderia Ferrari for second spot in the standings.

The drivers’ championship also took another twist, with Oscar Piastri crashing and Lando Norris failing to capitalise on his title rival’s crash. However, one driver who stole the spotlight was four-time champion Max Verstappen.

The Red Bull Racing driver coasted to another commanding win on the streets of Baku, further cutting the gap in the championship.

During the 2024 edition of the race, Lando Norris found himself in a Ferrari sandwich, with Charles Leclerc leading the FP1 session ahead of the McLaren driver and then-teammate Carlos Sainz.

Things are widely expected to take a different turn this time around, given the various gains and drop-offs respective teams have experienced over the course of the season.

FP1 is expected to be heralded by teams making adjustments and preparations for the overall race weekend.
