F1 LIVE | The first free practice session for the United States Grand Prix

The United States Grand Prix kicks off with the first free practice session. On the Circuit of the Americas, a lot of young drivers will also make their metres this session. In this liveblog from GPblog, you won't miss any of the action.

The first free practice session in America is dominated by rookie testing. This year, F1 teams are required to cede at least two practice sessions to a driver who has not yet been in F1 action. With only four Grands Prix to go, there are still plenty of teams that have not yet met that requirement.

At COTA, the first session of the weekend will see Robert Shwartzman (Ferrari), Theo Pourchaire (Alfa Romeo), Logan Sargeant (Williams) and Alex Palou (McLaren) in action. For all four of these drivers, it is also their debut in an official F1 session. It is not for Antonio Giovinazzi who drives for Haas. However, due to his F1 experience, this does not count as a rookie test.

For Formula 1 drivers and teams, the session is mainly about exploring the track, and finding the right setup. Thus, it will be especially interesting how the new cars react to the asphalt at this circuit. The liveblog for this session will be completed in English.
