Ralf Schumacher sees possible Aston Martin move for Oscar Piastri

Ralf Schumacher has hinted that Oscar Piastri could leave McLaren if trust between the driver and team has deteriorated. Speaking on the Backstage Boxengasse podcast, Schumacher said that when confidence is lost on either side, “consequences need to follow,” which may include a split. He added that Piastri’s situation has been complicated by public criticism and pressure in recent weeks.
The former F1 driver revealed that Aston Martin is actively seeking new talent for 2026 or shortly after and that discussions involving Piastri are already underway. According to Schumacher, Aston Martin is pursuing “two strong drivers,” with Piastri and Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc among the main options being considered for future line-ups.

McLaren accept Verstappen title challenge but refuse team orders

McLaren bosses Andrea Stella and Zak Brown have addressed the tightening 2025 title race, with Max Verstappen cutting his deficit to Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri from 104 to just 36 points across five events. Both team leaders confirmed that if Verstappen wins, McLaren will acknowledge the result with respect and remain focused on their long-term goals.
In an interview on the Beyond the Grid podcast, Stella said McLaren’s priority is to perform at their highest level regardless of outcome, while Brown stressed he would congratulate Verstappen if beaten. The duo dismissed any plans to favour one driver, referencing the 2007 title loss, and confirmed Norris and Piastri will continue racing freely for the championship without interference.
