Kimi Antonelli will look to extend his 45 point championship lead going into the final race of the summer break. The Italian, following a DNF in Barcelona and a non-points finish in Silverstone, saw a commanding lead at the top of the standings drop down to 25 points. But Antonelli has some breathing space again after George Russell's race-ending collision with Lewis Hamilton at Spa-Francorchamps.

Hamilton finished fourth in Spa and is second in the championship, but will be hoping for a return to form this weekend after beating outperformed by Charles Leclerc in the last two races. Hamilton can take some confidence by the fact that he has dominated around the Hungaroring in past years, and could match his own all-time F1 record of most wins by one driver at one circuit if he crosses the line first on Sunday.

Max Verstappen returned to the podium at Spa and this weekend will see the return of Red Bull's 'Macarena' wing, after it contributed to Verstappen's accidents at Austria and Silverstone. Meanwhile, Lando Norris felt like he has the pace to challenge for the win in Spa and will be hoping for another competitive weekend with no grid penalty.

One of the big talking points of the weekend will be how Aston Martin performs with what is essentially a B-spec car, with huge upgrades brought to the Hungarian Grand Prix.

After delays in getting their B-spec to Hungary, the car has now arrived and their drivers Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll will hope to see some promising sighs during FP1 on Friday.

Aston Martin broke curfew to prepare their car for Friday's sessions, however, no further action will be taken, with the team using the first of the five individual curfew exemptions permitted during the 2026 Formula 1 season.
