After a long wait, the sprint qualifying in
Formula 1 will finally take place. This is a first in the premier class of motorsport and will take place at
Silverstone in England, where both
Lewis Hamilton and
George Russell enjoy home advantage. Will
Max Verstappen be able to win this sprint race and take the first step towards his coveted 29 points, or will it be Hamilton who lands the first blow?
Liveblog: Sprint qualifying
After an eventful qualifying session on Friday, Verstappen missed out on the first spot on the grid by just one-tenth. Mercedes' regained momentum, Hamilton edged ahead of the Dutchman, securing the first spot for himself.
Uncertainty creates tension
The second row of the grid will be filled by
Valtteri Bottas and
Charles Leclerc, followed by Perez and Norris. It remains to be seen how much risk the drivers will be prepared to take in order to achieve the best possible grid position for Sunday. A mistake during the sprint will be costly during the Grand Prix.
All in all it promises to be an interesting and exciting session at
Silverstone, with the choice of tyres also playing an important role. Whereas the medium compound seemed to be the best choice initially, this is now shrouded in uncertainty. It could be that the softest tyre will win the race. In any case, excitement is guaranteed. Follow all the action below, in our liveblog!
British drivers
George Russell felt the full force of his home crowd during qualifying. The
Williams driver reached Q3 for the second time running, and ran a lap with the track to himself to secure 8th place for the sprint race. He has one more practice session to make some fine tweaks to his car.
Lando Norris also performed well in the sprint race for
McLaren, and classic Hamilton returned.
