F1 LIVE | F1 turns to Monza as Italian Grand Prix build-up begins

Formula 1 heads straight to Monza for the Italian Grand Prix, with the championship returning to the Temple of Speed from 4-6 September for the opening weekend of the Italy-Madrid double-header. The action begins on Friday with FP1 at 12:30 local time, giving teams their first opportunity to find the right set-up for Monza's unique high-speed demands, before preparations continue with FP2 at 16:00.

The final adjustments will be made during FP3 at 11:30 on Saturday, with the focus then immediately shifting to qualifying at 15:00 and the fight for a crucial place at the front of the grid. That will set the stage for the main event on Sunday, when the Italian Grand Prix gets underway at 15:00 and brings another eagerly anticipated weekend at one of Formula 1's most historic circuits to a close.

The German will undergo surgery on his right shoulder on Monday after further medical checks revealed that his injury at Stefan Raab's Jetski Star WM was more serious than initially believed.

The former Formula 1 driver was first diagnosed with a dislocated shoulder, which was put back into place shortly after the incident, but an X-ray and subsequent MRI at BG Klinikum Duisburg showed that a piece of bone had also broken off. Schumacher is travelling to Austria for the operation and is expected to spend one night in hospital afterwards. Despite the procedure, the 51-year-old still plans to travel to Monza on Thursday and fulfil his duties as a Sky Germany pundit at the Italian Grand Prix.

The injury occurred during the Team Challenge in Duisburg, where Schumacher was driving a jet ski with Stefan Raab riding behind him. After the pair ended up in the water for a second time, Schumacher experienced pain while attempting to turn the overturned jet ski back into position. His shoulder then fully dislocated as he tried to pull himself out of the water and climb back aboard, forcing their participation to come to an early end.
