Former team principal Guenther Steiner saw that to be the correct decision that the stewards did not give Lando Norris any penalty points after his crash with Oscar Piastri. But was it actually the fair decision?
Whereas Max Verstappen is on the verge of a suspension, this is not the case for Norris. In fact, the Brit has three penalty points to his name, which will only expire in December. The McLaren driver also received no penalty points for the aforementioned incident with his McLaren teammate.

Did the stewards have 'British bias'?

It is often said in Formula 1 that British drivers have an advantage with the stewards. Verstappen emphasised several times last season that he does not have a British passport, therefore he has a disadvantage. That prompted the question in many: is this also the case why Norris received no penalty points for the incident?
The simple answer is no. There were no British stewards present at the Canadian Grand Prix. There was even a Dutch steward present, so the 'British bias' cannot be pointed out.

Was it fair that Norris did not receive penalty points?

The fact that two teammates collided with each other is also not the reason for no penalty points being handed out.
Drivers have received penalty points for crashes with teammates in the past and the stewards do not judge these cases differently. The stewards decided to give a five-second penalty, because the incident did not an 'immediate an obvious sporting consequence', they wrote in their verdict.
