Charles Leclerc crossed the finish line in fifth place in Canada, a 'frustrating' result for the Monegasque driver. After rumours in the Italian media, Leclerc reflected on whether that changes anything.
On an alternative strategy, Leclerc tried to keep up with the leading pack, but the gap was proved to be too much behind the Top 5. After Lando Norris crashed into his teammate, Oscar Piastri, the Monegasque driver eventually finished in P5.
Leading up to the previous weekend, Italian media not only shared rumours about team principal Frederic Vasseur getting replaced, but also about Leclerc starting to look at possibilities at other teams.
On Friday, Vasseur said this is only 'hurting' his team. Asked about the mood within the team, Leclerc said in Montreal: "Well the motivation is still there, I mean of course today was a frustrating race and we are a little bit on the back foot, but more for the starting position than for the actual pace, because I think the pace wasn't too bad."
He continued: "So, yes, just frustrated that I didn't put everything together, but apart from that, everything that is around doesn't really affect me."
"I think the team really knows where I stand and I know what I want to do and that's what matters most to me. Then of course when there are rumours around, that can create a bit of distraction but I don't think we've been affected by it."

Leclerc not here to 'prove the media wrong'

An outstanding result by the Scuderia did not follow after the speculation in Canada, as Hamilton finished in P6 after hitting a groundhog damaged his car.
Did Leclerc want to make a statement after the aforementioned rumours? "I don't know what it would have showed because all those comments are just rumours and I think I would rather just focus on our work, and we're not here to try and prove anybody wrong or whatsoever."
"We're just trying to do our job the best possible we can and we'll be happy if we do it. We didn't exactly do everything right this weekend and I'm looking forward to next race to try and turn that situation around," he concluded.
