Surprise guest takes on photographer role at Hungarian GP

Among the many photographers covering the event was Czech President Petr Pavel, who, alongside his political duties, has a long-standing passion for photography and meets the accreditation requirements to work at Formula 1 events as a professional photographer.

Before entering politics, Pavel built a distinguished military career that saw him rise to some of the highest ranks within NATO. Between 2015 and 2018, he served as Chair of the NATO Military Committee, becoming the first representative from a former Warsaw Pact country to hold the Alliance's top military position. He was elected President of the Czech Republic in March 2023.

Pavel's passion for motorsport photography extends well beyond Formula 1. Earlier this year he was present at the 24 Hours of Le Mans with his camera, adding to a portfolio that already includes MotoGP and World Superbike events at Brno, NASCAR races in the United States and the Dakar Rally in Saudi Arabia.

Beyond motorsport, Pavel has also used his photography to support charitable causes. Last year, he auctioned a photo book featuring his work, raising almost €30,000 for organisations supporting children, single parents and elderly people.
