Debate | 'Formula 1 should abolish track limits'

Undoubtedly, it was unprecedented during qualifying: No less than 47 times a lap time was taken off due to exceeding the track limits. The shuffling of times made the session very confusing, even for the drivers. Max Verstappen already revealed during qualifying that it is very difficult to see the white line in the current generation of cars. Therefore, GPblog's proposition for our readers is: 'Formula 1 should abolish track limits.'

During the drivers' briefing, it had already been discussed that it is enormously difficult to determine exactly where the drivers come out when entering turn ten, but race control proved implacable anyway. Anyone who went a millimetre too far lost their time. The biggest victim became Sergio Perez, who found his anger in Q2 after losing several times.

On the one hand, you can say that rules are just rules, and drivers should just drive slower. At the same time, this is about Formula 1. Everyone wants to see drivers and cars going as fast as possible around the track. The profit margin for crossing the white line is minimal in Austria. Besides, if you get rid of track limits, the playing field is level for everyone. So why keep this rule in place, if 47 picked-off times is the result?
