Silverstone is considering idea of a cardboard audience from Bundesliga

Despite the fact that all Grands Prix will take place behind closed doors this summer, organizers want to make the best of it. The organisation of the British Grand Prix does not exclude that it will adopt methods from football.

Formula 1 celebrates its 70th anniversary this year and the British Grand Prix would be the most important moment for this. It was there in 1950 that the very first Grand Prix was organised that counted towards the world championship. Unfortunately there will be no partying in the stands, but Stuart Pringle, Silverstone's circuit director, does have a few ideas.

In the first place two Grands Prix are already being organized at Silverstone, the second race will officially be called the Formula 1 70th Anniversary Grand Prix. Something that already makes the event special. Pringle is planning something special for that race.

"I think we're getting a festival feeling. I've spoken to the television stations and they'd like to make a contribution. Especially printers who want to adopt the idea of a cardboard audience from the Bundesliga. That's great and I'm good at it," says Pringle to BBC Radio 5 Live.

He also hopes that the doors of the museum that belongs to the circuit can be opened this summer. In any case, he wants to share the museum's collection as much as possible with the TV audience during that second race.
