Now or never for Alpine talent: "You need a rich father for a third chance"

Christian Lundgaard has been part of the junior programme of Alpine (formerly Renault) for several years. In 2020, he made his Formula 2 debut with a seventh place finish, but the Dane knows that he needs to do better next season if he wants to keep his chances of winning a seat in the pinnacle of motor sport.
Lundgaard even thinks that this is his very last chance to make the switch to Formula 2. If it doesn't work out in 2021, he says he will have to look elsewhere.
"This is going to be a crucial season for me," Lundgaard told BT. He will drive for top team ART Grand Prix next year. "It will be my second year in Formula 2 and for a third chance you need a rich father. I just don't have one. It's not going to happen again if I don't deliver, but if I do, I know what can follow."

Schumacher as an example

For the 19-year-old driver, there is no way over the edge for the time being. He can take an example from Mick Schumacher. In his first year in Formula 2, the German finished only 12th, while last season he took the title. Next season, Schumacher will race for the Haas F1 team.
