Alexander Albon will have to give up his seat to Sergio Perez this season. Despite this replacement, it doesn't mean that Red Bull is embarking on a new course. The inflow from their own talent programme remains important according to Christian Horner.
With Perez's arrival a driver with a lot of experience joins Red Bull this year. A break in the trend because Red Bull has chosen in recent years to let its own talent flow through. Horner seems to hint at Auto, Motor und Sport that this is just a one-off choice. "The fact that we are now stepping out of line and taking someone outside the squad as the best option doesn't mean we are doubting the system. I would rather say that we have the size to make an exception with Sergio."

Gasly and Albon permanent members

Horner also sees opportunities for Gasly and Albon. They have certainly not been written off yet, according to the Englishman. "Pierre Gasly and Alex Albon are still permanent members of our squad", he said. "There are also promising talents coming in. First and foremost, of course, Yuki Tsunoda. But Liam Lawson and Jüri Vips also make a very good impression. I'm not worried about our young talent."
Horner therefore says there is nothing wrong with Red Bull's junior programme. "I think our junior programme serves its purpose and Helmut also selects the right people. It's unrealistic to expect a new world champion or winner every season. Our hit rate is right."
