This morning, Valtteri Bottas shared a photo on social media hinting at what would be confirmed just a few hours later: his official move to Cadillac in 2026. But now, a funny behind-the-scenes story from that photo has come to light.
The news had been circulating for quite some time, as GPBlog had already reported a few weeks ago, but now it’s official: Valtteri Bottas will be a Cadillac driver starting in 2026.
The Finnish driver will team up with Sergio Perez, who was also announced today, with both making their return to Formula 1 after their current year off.
A highly experienced duo chosen by the American giant, which is about to make its historic Formula 1 debut in an equally challenging season, with major regulation changes and cars that will be radically different from the current ones.
This morning, the Finn had already dropped a clear hint about the news that would be confirmed just a few hours later.

The former Mercedes driver posted a photo of himself standing on a surfboard, holding a beer in his right hand and waving an American flag in his left. A reference that fans immediately interpreted as a clear signal.

Too bad that, behind the making of that photo, Valtteri ran into a little “problem.” A video that surfaced on social media in the past few hours shows the Finn losing his balance during the shoot and tumbling into the water fully dressed.
The clip has clearly sparked plenty of laughter online, as you can see below.
