Max Verstappen 's lead in the Formula 1 championship was already huge, but after the Dutch Grand Prix the difference increased even further. Verstappen not only took victory at Zandvoort, but also grabbed the extra World Championship point for the fastest lap. The Red Bull Racing driver now has 309 points.
Charles Leclerc, who was number three in the world championship before today, finished third and gained fifteen points Sunday afternoon. This puts him on a par with Sergio Perez, who added ten points to his total with a fifth place.
George Russell crossed the finish line in second place and has managed to reasonably close the gap to Perez and Leclerc in the World Championship. His lead over Lewis Hamilton has now increased to thirty points. The two teammates are separated by Carlos Sainz with 175 points. The Ferrari driver dropped from P5 to P8 in the Netherlands after a time penalty for an unsafe release.
