Dutch talent Laurens van Hoepen claimed pole position in Formula 2's qualifying at the Canadian Grand Prix. Ferrari's Rafael Camara and Alpine's Alex Dunne completed the top three today at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve

As it happened

Drivers were quick to head out on track at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve. Formula 1's free practice session had been extended by 15 minutes following Alexander Albon's red flag incident earlier in the day, meaning the Formula 2 drivers had little margin for error with F1 Sprint Qualifying approaching quickly.
After the first push laps were completed in the session, Ferrari talent Camara led the session with a 1:22.025, marginally ahead of Nico Varrone and Laurens van Hoepen. On his second attempt, Red Bull junior and championship leader Tsolov further improved, and got up to sixth place.
With nine minutes to go, Oliver Goethe hit the wall breaking his rear suspension, which caused a red flag. Minutes later, a second red flag was caused by Tasanapol Inthraphuvasak after the ART Grand Prix driver also hit the wall exiting Turn 5.

After the two crashes, drivers had just four minutes to complete a final flying lap in Montreal. Tsolov initially held provisional pole before being displaced first by Martinius Stenshorne and then by Dunne. Tsolov improved again to second place, and in the closing moments, Van Hoepen snatched pole position. Camara also climbed to second, pushing both Dunne and Tsolov onto the second row of the grid. The Sprint pole will go to Mini in 10th place.
