Alexander Albon crashed heavily into the barriers around halfway through FP1 at the Canadian Grand Prix, triggering the second red flag of the session.
Images of the incident involving the Williams driver have not yet been shown, but Albon appeared to crash heavily on the exit of the straight at the beginning of the second sector. The impact forced him to retire from the session prematurely and climb out of the car. The driver was okay and was escorted off the track by the marshals.
From the first onboard footage of the FW48, the Thai driver appeared to lose control of the car after hitting a marmot, before crashing into the barriers at Turn 7, bouncing back onto the track and eventually coming to a stop a few metres later.
The opening red flag of the session was triggered in the early stages after Liam Lawson stopped out on track just 10 minutes into FP1. The Racing Bulls driver was forced to park his car, leading Race Control to suspend the session briefly in order to recover the stranded vehicle before running resumed around five minutes later.
Due to the multiple interruptions, the session has been extended by an additional 15 minutes and will now finish at 18:45 BST.
