Crawford claims pole in Baku
At the end of a session marked by multiple red flags, Jak Crawford takes pole in Baku, thanks to the time he set in the first half of the session. This is the second pole position for the American driver this season.
How the F2 qualifying unfolded
The session immediately begins with a huge crash for Cordeel at the exit of the castle section, triggering the first red flag right away. The driver hit the barriers at high speed in turn 10, losing control of the car, but fortunately suffered no injuries.
After several minutes of red flag while the track was cleared of debris, the session resumes with 22 minutes remaining, with
Alex Dunne currently leading the field.
At the end of the first runs for everyone, Jak Crawford sets the fastest time, four tenths ahead of the two Italians, with championship leader Leonardo Fornaroli ahead of Minì, while Dunne slightly hit the wall in the castle section and returned to the pits to check for suspension damage.
As everyone was launching for their final attempt, Victor Martins crashed heavily into the wall at turn 3 with four minutes remaining. Red flag, and the session was, of course, over for the French driver.
After nearly twenty minutes of waiting to repair the barriers and clear the debris, the session finally resumes for the final runs.
Once again, a red flag! Stanek and Bennet crashed into the wall with one minute remaining, meaning the session will not resume. Jak Crawford thus takes pole position.
