A sensational twist in the championship battle unfolded in Malaysia as George Russell retired late in the race, handing Kimi Antonelli a huge opportunity to extend his lead even further at the top of the standings.
The Briton suffered a supsected power unit issue, forcing him to park his W17 at Turn 1 while the race was still under Safety Car conditions. Antonelli is currently running second and could therefore add another 18 points to his championship advantage.
As things stand, the Italian holds a commanding 84-point advantage over Russell, an extremely healthy cushion that leaves him within touching distance of wrapping up the championship.
