Lando Norris makes it two out of two and tops FP2 ahead of a surprising Alonso and Oscar Piastri with George Russell and Max Verstappen rounding off the top 5. As FP2 got underway, the rain set itself loose over Circuit
Zandvoort. Nevertheless it was not programme-run altering with drivers remaining on track with slick tyres on.
The woes for Andrea Kimi Antonelli did not end with his FP1 off-track excursion which ended his session early. Heading into the fast section of Sector 1,
Fernando Alonso was on a flier when he encountered a slow-moving Antonelli.
This prompted a rather harsh comment from the Spaniard on the onboard radio: "Antonelli is blind."
Yuki Tsunoda impeded Charles Leclerc on the small straight prior to the last banked corner which sparked a comment from the Monegasque urging for a penalty for the Japanese driver, suggesting "he just doesn't care." Alexander Albon in his Williams was also impeded, ironically by a Ferrari.
Following Lance Stroll's and Isack Hadjar's abandonments from the session, Lewis Hamilton spun his Ferrari managing to keep it on track albeit marginally so.
Alonso surprises McLaren at Zandvoort
Lando Norris then reaffirmed his place at the top with Fernando Alonso just 0.087s off a second behind.
Alexander Albon then repeated Max Verstappen's post-FP1 mistake, shooting straight on at Turn 1, heading into the gravel, but unlike the Dutchman, the Thai driver did hit the wall damaging his front wing, and beaching his car in the process.
Then George Russell and Oscar Piastri nearly took each other out in the pitlane in an incident that could have title implications since it was noted by the Stewards.
The timing sheets showed a remarkable line up. Norris topping the session with Fernando Alonso only 0.087s back and ahead of Oscar Piastri in P3.
