The FIA has summoned Lando Norris and his McLaren teammate Oscar Piastri following an investigation after the Las Vegas Grand Prix.
The McLaren pair have been referred to the stewards after their MCL39 cars were found to be below the required thickness for the skid block.
In its statement regarding the investigation, the FIA said the skid wear of car numbers 81 and 04 was checked. The rearmost skid was measured on both cars according to the team’s legality document submissions. The FIA measured the thickness to be less than 9 mm on both cars, which is the minimum required.

It is worth noting that FIA representatives, led by Nikolas Tombazis, were present in the McLaren garage following the conclusion of the Vegas race.

How previous skid block incidents have been judged by the FIA

The FIA has a storied history of meting out harsh sanctions in matters related to plank wear. The Scuderia Ferrari team was the most recent to face scrutiny, after both Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc were disqualified at the Chinese Grand Prix.
Likewise, Stake F1 Kick Sauber driver Nico Hulkenberg also faced the short end of the stick when he was disqualified at the Bahrain Grand Prix for a similar incident.
Surprisingly, both Hamilton and Leclerc, despite driving for different teams in 2023, suffered another disqualification due to the same issue during the 2023 United States Grand Prix at the Circuit of the Americas.
