BREAKING: Raikkonen announces retirement from Formula 1

It was probably a long time coming, but now he has made his decision: Kimi Raikkonen will stop driving Formula 1 after this year, and will not return to the grid in 2022.

The departure of the Finn, who turns 42 in October, was, on the one hand, expected. On the other hand, the crowd favourite seemed to have no intention of leaving for a long time, but now he is done with it after all.

"This is it," he heralds his Instagram message. "This will be my last season in Formula 1." He explains that he already made the decision last winter, and that he feels it is time for something new.
