Sainz relieved after qualifying: 'Pole here is great'

Carlos Sainz showed his qualities at the Silverstone Grand Prix. The Spanish driver set the fastest time in Q3, securing himself first place on the grid for the race. Afterwards, he spoke to Viaplay and expressed his delight.

A fortnight ago, Sainz showed great confidence by finishing second in Canada. The driver was close to victory at the time, but Max Verstappen managed to keep his Ferrari rival behind him.

At Silverstone, the proportions were reversed during qualifying. Verstappen did everything he could to take pole position in Great Britain, as he did last season, but he missed the target. Sainz surprised the spectators by taking P1.

"I'm very happy because I love these conditions and this track. And pole here is great", Sainz said in the interview. It was the first time in his career that the Madrid-born driver had taken pole position. Sainz took some time in front of the camera to get used to the idea. "It's a special feeling," he said.
