In all the commotion surrounding the decision in the title race, it was almost forgotten that Carlos Sainz drove a great race in Abu Dhabi. The Ferrari driver sealed this with a fine third place. Sainz ended the season in fifth place in the final standings, two places above his celebrated teammate Charles Leclerc.

Good performance

Next season Sainz is also under contract with Ferrari, after that he could be a free man. However, with his good performance, it is easy to imagine that the Italians would like to keep the Spaniard for a longer period of time. According to the Spanish newspaper Marca that will happen soon.

If it's up to Ferrari, Sainz will remain with the iconic team at least until 2024. A new contract has already been discussed. A final deal would be signed before the start of next season.

Leclerc already signed

If Sainz is indeed signed for a longer period of time, then the driver duo for the coming years will be fixed. Charles Leclerc has already signed a long term contract with Ferrari. The Monegasque is also contracted until at least the end of 2024.
