That Mercedes protested against the victory of Max Verstappen after the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix didn't go down well with everyone. Toto Wolff emphasizes that the whole situation has nothing to do with the Dutchman and his team.
"I would have been totally okay with Max and Red Bull winning the championship on Sunday", Wolff tells Crash.net.
Mercedes' main concern is the inconsistent rules of the FIA. An investigation has been launched into the final laps in Abu Dhabi. The team boss believes that the safety car protocols were at odds with previous races.

Wolff praises Verstappen

"This situation has nothing to do with Max; he is a worthy champion. I have the greatest respect of the people [Red Bull] working there", Wolff stresses.

Despite the worthy victory for Verstappen, the German believes Lewis Hamilton has been robbed of his championship. Nevertheless, the team has chosen not to protest further against the FIA's decisions. They hope the investigation will provide more clarity for the future.
