Toto Wolff will not be present at the Japan Grand Prix at the end of September. The Mercedes team boss needs surgery on his cruciate ligament. The Austrian will be replaced by Jerome D'Ambrosio, who is the Driver Development Director of Mercedes.

Wolff also broke elbow before

Not so long ago, Wolff had other physical problems: the team boss broke his elbow in a fall from his bike during the summer break. Speaking to oe24. at, Wolff explained how his fall came about: "I was riding downhill and hit a stone. As a result, I fell off my bike and broke my elbow." Meanwhile, the Mercedes team boss' elbow is almost healed, but the Austrian will soon have to undergo surgery for something else.

Wolff not present in Japan

The Singapore and Japan Grands Prix form a 'double header', but Wolff will only be present at the first leg of the dual. Wolff will undergo knee surgery after the race weekend in the city-state. This will involve repairing cruciate ligament damage, which Wolff had suffered due to a previous motorsport accident, oe24.at reveals.

Replacing the Mercedes team boss is D'Ambrosio. The Belgian worked in Formula 1 in 2011 and 2012 and was the team boss of an FE team. At the next Grand Prix, in Qatar, Wolff will most likely be present again.
