Williams have introduced new aerodynamic parts for their cars at the
Hockenheimring, with Kubica testing them on Friday and teammate
George Russell on Saturday.
Kubica has struggled to out-qualify and finish ahead of Russel throughout most of the year but got the better of him in FP1, but Russell ended up quicker in FP2 despite the Pole running the new car updates.
The new aero updates have already caused issues that need to be looked into according to Kubica.
He said (quoted by MotorsportWeek):
“We didn’t have an easy day today, compromised already on the installation lap. “We will have to revise everything and fix some parts in order [that] they stay attached to the car. “It’s the second weekend in a row that something is breaking down. “When you leave the garage and already on installation lap you are compromised, and it was very important for us to do our programme, which we set up, unfortunately we were influenced by this straight away, so it was not an easy day today.” Kubica didn’t elaborate on what the issue was that the team were facing to do with their new parts, but that they ‘hope’ to fix it.
“We hope we can fix it… we were a bit too fragile… that’s how it is,” he added.
“We have to make sure everything will stay attached to the car and hopefully tomorrow will be better.”
