Prior to the
Italian Grand Prix at Monza,
Williams announced that the family was going to distance themselves from the team, making room for the new owner of the team. This made the Monza race the last Grand Prix for Claire
Williams. In an interview with Formula1.com she states that it is a pity, but that it was also the right step for the future.
Williams admitted she was delighted with what Williams have achieved when the team was still led by the family. “The legacy this family leaves behind in this sport is extraordinary.
My dad came from nothing in F1. He had nothing except a dream and he managed to create this extraordinary team that so many people around the world love, not least the people within it," Claire Williams concluded.
