Will Brawn retire? 'Then I will take car of my grandchildren more'

Rumours abound that F1 sporting director Ross Brawn will quit his post after this season. Brawn appears to be indicating that he is indeed stepping down as chief executive, but will not retire completely just yet.

Brawn is a great character and well-known figure in the king class of motorsport. The Briton is a former engineer, former team boss and team owner and currently sporting director in Formula 1. As sporting director, Brawn has spent the last few years working on making and keeping the sport attractive and nurturing sportsmanship. Under Brawn, sprint racing also came to Formula 1 and in recent years, the Briton has been very busy with the technical and sporting rule changes coming in 2022.

Speaking to F1-insider.com, Brawn says he is not quite retiring yet, but he does appear to be resigning his current position at the end of this season. Brawn: "I want to step down significantly, let's put it that way. I will continue to be available with my expertise, but I will no longer be responsible for one area every day. That means I will take care of my children and grandchildren more, go fishing more and take care of my garden

Brawn already looks back briefly on an eventful career in Formula 1: "There were different periods with different challenges. First I was part of a team, then I had my own team, then I worked for the marketer." Brawn cannot compare his duties, but does say that his work with the F1 teams were the most stressful times. "That tasj is so incredibly responsible, so incredibly intensive. I wouldn't be able to do that now." Currently, Brawn mainly gets his pleasure from touting the sport and attracting new fans.
