Why Piastri is adamant McLaren's situation is different to Red Bull's last brutal lineup

Oscar Piastri leads the standings by 22 points over his teammate Lando Norris and has looked ice cool under the increasing pressure of a title fight.

The Australian has taken significant steps forward this year, which has created a very assured driver behind the wheel.

McLaren's pair of drivers had their first incident last time out in Canada, as Norris made contact with his teammate.

Piastri is managed by Mark Webber who won multiple Grands Prix for Red Bull and fought for the title in 2010.

The Australian driver was asked if there are any similarities between McLaren's situation and Webber's rivalry with Sebastian Vettel in 2010.

He said in the press conference ahead of the Austrian Grand Prix: "No. I think the situation is very different. I think Lando and I are very different people to Mark and Seb. I think the situation within the team, the situation in their careers, was also different. Also, the incident in Canada didn’t warrant any big discussions or big decisions.

Norris was quick to take the blame for the incident in Canada as he retired from the race, conceding 12 points to his teammate.

The Austrian Grand Prix is a vital weekend in the world championship, and Piastri will look to extend his lead as the pressure continues to build on his teammate.
