Former IndyCar driver James Hinchcliffe has high praise for Max Verstappen. The Canadian also saw the four-time world champion excelling at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve.
In the Drive to Wynn podcast, Hinchcliffe praised Verstappen, who finished second behind George Russell in Montreal, but explains he delivers week in, week out.
“It's so impressive what he's been doing. It's been like that for the last two years, he's kind of been on an island with that car. It's been a one horse race within the team. He's carrying the team in the constructors' battles, he's doing it all,” said the driver who currently competes in IMSA and also commentates in the United States.
In particular, what stands out to him is the way Verstappen manages to get the most out of his weekends, while also rarely making mistakes in the process.
“You feel like he always gets one hundred percent out of his car and out of himself. Almost incalculable amount of mistakes, so, so little, so few. Spain kind of being one of the exception with that whole issue with Russell late in that race. Even that wasn't a mistake, that was an error of judgement. It was a moral mistake, more than a driving mistake," he continued.

'Verstappen is so good at this'

“His ability is capability of just maximising that package week in, week out. every week, on any circuit. He is an inevitability,” Hinchcliffe further praised the four-time world champion.
Throughout the Canadian GP, the driver from the North American country also saw the Dutchman trying to put Russell under pressure, but that the Briton was able to bring home his first victory of the season.
“Continuously applying that pressure is kind of the main tactic, the main advantage you got as the pursuing driver. And we know Max is so good at that,” the Canadian explained.
