George Russell says the rumors surrounding Max Verstappen's potential switch do not affect the drivers at all. The Briton explained that he has more important things to worry about. Ahead of the Belgian Grand Prix, Verstappen was once again asked about his future. The Dutchman kept it brief during the FIA press conference.
"There’s nothing to say from my side," he said.
Following the British Grand Prix, the former four-time
Formula 1 world champion has been heavily linked with a move from Red Bull Racing to
McLaren. Russell, who found himself at the centre of speculation surrounding Verstappen's future during the 2025 season, said the rumors had little impact on him or his race weekends.
"It wasn't a distraction at all, and I knew what the reality was with my contract," he began to GPblog, among others.

"And I know what the reality is with my contract currently and the same as Oscar knows what the reality, or Lando knows what the reality is with their contract.
"It's nice stories and it keeps things interesting but I've got to deal with that for 15 minutes on a Thursday most weekends and then I move on it definitely doesn't keep me up at night. And it's you know I've got bigger things to worry about and bigger things to focus on."
McLaren door closes for Verstappen as Piastri commits to papaya squad for 2027
At Spa, Oscar Piastri also confirmed that he will stay with McLaren for the 2027 Formula 1 season. "Yes. I mean, I've obviously seen some of [the rumors] and heard some of it. For me, I'm very comfortable with where I am and where I sit, and, you know, Zak [Brown] and Andrea [Stella] and the whole team have been great through all that, very reassuring, and I've been the same to them.
"I mean, clearly, Max is feeling, I don't know, maybe he's not in a great position at the moment or exploring options. It was the same thing last year with him and Mercedes. So it's nothing new, but I'm very happy with where I'm at, where things are at and how it's been going." Piastri has no issue with his team sitting down with Verstappen. He added: "I don't know. I'm not really that bothered. I think it's important for people to know where things sit, where the market sits, and the information you can get is good. So, yeah, I trust the team here. And the things I've been told and the belief in me, so that's all I really care about."
