Liam Lawson managed to qualify ahead of Max Verstappen in Austria. While this seemed to be a very painful fact for the Dutch driver, Verstappen responded quite sportingly after the session.
Max Verstappen did not make it beyond seventh place during the qualifying in Spielberg due to an unfortunate yellow flag. Liam Lawson, on the other hand, has had a strong weekend so far, qualifying ahead of his teammate Isack Hadjar, and Verstappen, in P6.
From the outside, this appears to be a very painful fact. Lawson was demoted from the main team to Racing Bulls at the beginning of the year. The fact that he managed to qualify ahead of a Red Bull seems to say a lot about the state of the car from the Austrian racing team.

Yet, Verstappen reacted very sportingly to this. During a livestream of Team Redline, just after the qualifying, the Dutchman was reminded of this fact. Verstappen could only acknowledge that Lawson put in a very strong performance. "Yes, absolutely. I was happy for him. That's a very good qualifying result," said the Dutch driver.

Due to a yellow flag during the qualifying, caused by a spin from Pierre Gasly, Verstappen could not complete his last fast lap. As a result, he finished in P7. Less than three hours after the session, the Dutchman already participated in a livestream from Team Redline. Along with his colleagues, Verstappen is closely following the 24 hours of Spa.
