Max Verstappen went into detail on why Red Bull decided to revert to its previous, more conventional rear wing specification, temporarily shelving the 'Macarena' wing following the back-to-back incidents in Austria and Silverstone.
Ahead of the opening day of on-track action at Spa, Red Bull decided to revert to a conventional rear wing specification, temporarily abandoning the concept first introduced by Ferrari during pre-season testing in Bahrain back in February before Red Bull later developed its own interpretation.
In both race weekends, the Dutchman suffered a failure of the rear wing's active aero mechanism, leaving his RB22 virtually undriveable. On both occasions, he lost control of the car and ended up in the gravel.
Asked during Thursday's press conference why Red Bull had decided to revert to the previous rear wing specification, Verstappen suggested the reasoning was self-explanatory, explaining that the team would return to the older version until the latest design was ready to be used again.

"I think it's quite obvious, no? We'll go back on the old one and then see whenever the latest or the new one is ready again to be used for us."

Verstappen finally responds to heavy McLaren rumours and his future

Ahead of the Belgian Grand Prix, the four-time world champion declined to offer any insight into his long-term future, refusing to be drawn into the ongoing speculation surrounding a potential move away from Red Bull. Throughout Thursday's media session, the Dutchman consistently avoided discussing the rumours, stressing that there was nothing new to share.
Even when asked repeatedly whether his stance should be interpreted as a commitment to remain with Red Bull until his current contract expires at the end of 2028, Verstappen refused to elaborate, maintaining the same position and making it clear he would only address the topic if there were concrete news.

He also reflected on his relationship with Red Bull, describing it as something that has grown over many years through mutual commitment and shared experiences. He emphasised the strong connection he has built with the team, adding that it feels like a second family to him.
