With the departure of Honda from Formula 1, there are also immediate questions about the future of Max Verstappen. However, according to father Jos there is nothing wrong and Red Bull Racing just has to provide a competitive car.
Honda will leave Formula 1 at the end of 2021. The Japanese engine supplier wants to focus more on sustainable engines and therefore drops the expensive F1 project. As a result, Red Bull Racing will be without an engine from 2022 and will have to find a solution to this problem. For Verstappen, however, this has no influence at this moment.

Jos gives clarity to Red Bull

''We'll wait patiently and see what happens'', Jos Verstappen says opposite De Telegraaf. ''All words to the outside world are of little use to us. It's time that Red Bull put down a car with which you can become a champion. If Max has a competitive car next year, they don't have to worry about anything. That's the goal: to become a World Champion," said the former Formula 1 driver.
That makes Jos' intentions clear. Whoever will supply the engine, the future of Verstappen and Red Bull depends on performance in 2021. In 2020 Red Bull won't be able to deliver the car to compete for the title and that is expected in 2021. If not, it is highly likely that Verstappen will ask the competition what is possible.
