Rarely have two drivers been so close during a season as Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton in 2021. The two title rivals even started with the same amount of points in Abu Dhabi. According to Martin Brundle the two should share the title this season.

Congratulations for Verstappen and Mercedes

Brundle kicks off his column for Sky Sports by congratulating Verstappen on his first world championship. The British F1 commentator praises the speed and determination of the Dutchman who also has a great team behind him. The former driver also congratulated Mercedes for the eighth constructors' title in a row.
Brundle is disappointed with the controversy surrounding the last race in Abu Dhabi. "Despite perhaps the best and most exciting season in Formula 1's 70-plus year history, there was mostly anger from a heavily polarised paddock and fanbase. That's such a shame."

Hamilton and Verstappen both champion

Despite the controversy in Abu Dhabi, Brundle does believe Verstappen deserved the title. "Of course he deserves it." After all, Verstappen drove the most laps in the lead, won more races, was on the podium more often and topped the championship after 15 of the 22 races. "And he didn't have the most luck this season, until the final miles of course".
Yet Hamilton would also be a deserved champion, Brundle believes. "His raw speed, consistency, determination, style, class and stamina, especially in the closing stages, were outstanding." According to Brundle, Verstappen and Hamilton should therefore actually share the title this season.
