Unfortunately, Lewis Hamilton hit a groundhog during the Canadian Grand Prix, damaging his car. After the race, Ferrari team principal Fred Vasseur spoke about the ‘Marmot’.
Ahead of the race weekend, multiple rumours emerged that Ferrari was not happy with Vasseur and the team's performance. While the rumours were shut down by all three (Charles Leclerc, Hamilton, and Vasseur), Ferrari’s lack of pace could be a real issue.

However, for Hamilton, there is an explanation.
Vasseur said, “It's true that we had a small kiss with the Marmot. It was lap 8 or 9 at the beginning of the first stint.”

“We did major damage on the front part of the floor, it's something like 20 points [of downforce lost].”

Hamilton crossed the line in sixth, seven seconds behind his teammate Leclerc. He would have been seventh if Lando Norris had finished the race.
Vasseur said, “We didn't have a big change in balance, but it was a lot of performance.”
He then jokingly said, “We will send flowers to the Marmon.”

Hamilton was very distraught after learning that it was a hedgehog he had hit and killed, as he is a long-time vegan and animal lover.
