On one of his qualifying laps at the Nordschleife during the Barbarossapreis, Max Verstappen had a close call off the track.
In an onboard video from one of the four-time world champion’s laps, he could be seen avoiding a BMW that had remained on the racing line ahead of him.
The key moment comes at 4:45 in the video, when Verstappen encountered two cars in his path. He managed to pass the first, but for the second he was forced to put two wheels on the grass and go off track to avoid a collision.

The manouver was handled with remarkable composure, as the four-time world champion, after the scare, returned to the racing line and completed his lap without any further risk.
Verstappen ultimately finished his first official GT3 qualifying session in third place, missing out on pole due to the heavy traffic he encountered.
The Dutchman, however, immediately made up for it in the race, seizing the lead into Turn 1 and building a gap of over a minute to the runner-up, allowing his teammate Chris Lulham to cross the finish line first.

Verstappen’s GT3 victory draws worldwide attention

Although it wasn’t a Formula 1 weekend, the Nordschleife was packed with fans last weekend, who turned out in huge numbers to witness what became the four-time world champion’s first victory in the NLS championship.
Millions of supporters also showed their backing from afar, with both the social media channels broadcasting the race and TV networks—such as Sky Sports—recording remarkable viewing figures thanks to the Dutchman’s achievement.
