A filmmaker with a soft spot for Ronnie Peterson, Gilles Villeneuve, Mika Hakkinen and above all, Tazio Nuvolari and Ayrton Senna, is also a diehard Formula One fan since the age of 4 (mid-90's). An avid researcher of the past of Grand Prix Racing since before it was even named F1, and with a thirst for knowledge of the ins and outs of the actuality of the sport, as well as for the technical aspects that define it, is a member of GPblog since 2023, where he has put his love of racing to good use.
Max Verstappen has officially made his helmet design for 2025 world famous. The Dutchman has chosen a new design for the upcoming Formula 1 season, whilst at the same time hinting at the past. Indeed, the design should represent his entire career: from his early years to the present, reaching also towards the future.
Verstappen has once again chosen to integrate the Dutch flag into his helmet, and of course, since it's already an emblem of the four time world champion's, the lion is present as well. In addition, the design is largely inspired by Jos Verstappen's former helmet, and the helmet the Red Bull Racing driver wore in karts as a child as well. The nostalgic helmet is thus symbolic of the Dutchman's past, but with a modern and timeless twist, it also looks toward the future.
Ode to Jos Verstappen
"This helmet design is basically similar to when I started racing, when I was four years old," Verstappen describes on his own website. "It was based on my father's design and I am definitely very proud of that. When I started racing, my father's helmet design was very important to me. That was the helmet that I really liked and that I am very proud to wear."
He continued: "The little details are the red and blue lines, which represent the Dutch flag. I tried to keep it as simple as possible, which I like, with of course the lion on top. It's definitely, you could say, our family design. Some details are different, but overall it's back to its roots. I'm very happy with it."
