Stroll was the first Canadian race leader since Villeneuve: "I'm really happy"

Lance Stroll managed to lead the German Grand Prix. In the process, he became the first Canadian Formula 1 race leader since Jacques Villeneuve. The SportPesa Racing Point driver was pleased with the result but frustrated he wasn't able to finish on the podium.

"I'm really happy but it's a bit unfortunate that the podium slipped away. I was leading the race at one point. A small error allowed Dani (Kvyat) to get by. It was a hectic race and we were on the right tyre with 20 laps to go," Stroll told Sky Sports.

Stroll was the first driver to move onto the slick tyres. It was still wet out on the track, but the SportPesa Racing Point team decided to take a risk.

"I was driving with my visor open for the lap, inspecting the tarmac seeing if it was good for slicks. I knew if we could just jump our competitors, who were on inters, we would be in really good shape," Stroll added.
