Lance Stroll believes he could have finished much higher and taken steps onto the podium had
Williams been on a better strategy. Stroll came third last year in the Baku city Grand Prix. This time around he managed to pick up Williams’ first points.
The Canadian seemed to stress that if Williams had put him on a similar strategy to Perez, he would have been in the top 3 again.
“We saw Perez finish on the podium, and he was behind me after the first safety car with a very different strategy,” said the 19-year-old Lance Stroll.
“I look at Perez and probably that is the best strategy - we just wanted points so we played it kind of safe if that makes sense.”
Throughout pre-season, the Williams team faced criticism over the young and inexperienced driver choices. But Stroll still feels as if he is doing a good job and the English team have plenty more to come.
“I kept it on the track, a lot of drivers made mistakes. I kept my head together in a very difficult race in very difficult conditions.
“I think it’s a big boost. We’ve been working really hard over the last few races when we realised our struggles, and to get something in return with some points is very satisfying.”
Williams became the final team to score points in the 2018 season. It’s the first time in 8 years that all teams have scored points, after just 4 races.
