Seidl: "I don't have time to waste my energy on that"

McLaren team boss Andreas Seidl sees no basis to protest against Racing Point because of the similarities with the 2019 Mercedes. The new machine of Racing Point is already called 'the pink Mercedes' by many.

No problem

For McLaren, the concept used by Racing Point is not a problem. Racing Point seems to have chosen in 2020 to copy the Mercedes of 2019 as much as possible. Just like Racing Point, McLaren will start driving Mercedes engines in 2021.
"We as McLaren want to be an independent manufacturer", Seidl said in a video conference with Motorsport-total.com and others. "Also in the future." McLaren does not intend to follow the same path as their competitors from Silverstone. Seidl says he wants to reach McLaren's sporting goals through their own hard work.

Seidl assumes that the new Racing Point RP20 has been built completely legally. "We have to assume - and I'm sure we do - that everything is legal", he says. He says McLaren won't be protesting the RP20. "There is no basis for a complaint and I don't have time to waste my energy on it", Seidl says.
