McLaren are on a roll, and Oscar Piastri is currently riding the wave, whilst teammate Lando Norris is currently struggling to keep up. Former F1 driver Ralf Schumacher believes team orders can come soon at the papaya team.
McLaren are dominating the Constructors' championship at their leisure and Piastri maintains a healthy 32 points gap to Max Verstappen and half of that to teammate Norris. In the Backstage Boxengasse Podcast, former F1 driver Timo Glock notes that there's a clear difference between Piastri's mindset and that of Norris.
"I find it very interesting how Oscar Piastri is currently positioning himself. Very well educated, and he's just delivering an incredibly strong performance," he explains. "Lando is struggling a bit again to find confidence in himself. And that's an intriguing topic."

Norris under pressure and McLaren's hand may be forced

For Schumacher it's a matter of Norris' mistakes, precisely, when will he stop making them? "The question is mainly when Lando finally becomes a bit more relaxed and learns to deal with himself," he states. "I think he's under huge pressure. That actually applies to all drivers. They always want to prove that they are the fastest. This sometimes leads them to go just a bit too far with the car."
Should his mistake-streak continue, not too far into the future, McLaren may be forced to intervene, notes the former F1 driver. "For Lando, it's going to be tough, especially if this continues until the summer break. Then at some point, the team will have to make a decision. I'm quite sure of that, because you don't want to miss the chance at the drivers' title this year," Schumacher says.
