Mick Schumacher still has to wait and see if he will be part of Haas F1 next season. However, in conversation with Motorsportweek.com, Ayao Komatsu has many positive words for the driver. The trackside engineering director therefore seems to be hoping for a longer stay for the driver at the American race stable.
Whereas in his first season he was empty-handed in the world championship, Schumacher managed to finish in the points only twice this year. At Silverstone, he finished in eighth place overall, while his performance in Austria was good for sixth position. His teammate Kevin Magnussen achieved almost double the number of points.
According to Komatsu, however, it is by no means down to his work ethic. "He’s a very hard worker," he stressed. "He always sits with his engineers trying to understand what he’s done wrong, where he can improve on Friday night."

Schumacher makes positive development

In several areas, the director notices that Schumacher has developed in the last 18 months. Komatsu therefore thinks Schumacher will only get better. "Finally in a season-and-a-half, you know, since his debut, it has started paying off. And then that gives him confidence and that’s the positive cycle."
