Since 2020, Bradley Scanes has been Max Verstappen's performance trainer. In November 2023, the Brit decided to move on. He had four great years with Verstappen in the top class of motorsport. From FIFA in the coronavirus period to world championships in F1. Scanes recounted his first meeting with the Dutchman.
"I flew over to Barcelona. I spent half a day there," Scanes said on the Red Flag podcast. "He was testing some GT cars around the circuit Catalunya. All his family were there, met his dad and his girlfriend, friends. It was very open, exploring what each other wanted. We got on straight away."

'How do we get a world championship?'

"We talked about football and other sports," Scanes continued in the podcast. "We were talking about football and other sports. I told him my background. I went in there thinking I'm probably not going to get the job but I'll give it a go. I said I've already got one world championship. How do we get you one? How do we build this and make this happen? And I think he kind of liked that," he said
Soon after Scanes and Verstappen met, the coronavirus lockdown started. The coach said he was in Verstappen's 'bubble', and therefore saw him often. Scanes and Verstappen spent a long time together in Monaco as they had nowhere else to go.
