Carlos Sainz fell just short of victory at the Canadian Grand Prix but could be very satisfied with a second-place finish. Nico Rosberg, however, does not expect Sainz to be able to compete with Charles Leclerc and fight for the world title this season.
"Sainz has it in him to be a good driver at Ferrari, but at the moment he doesn't have it in him to be world champion," the analyst at Sky Sports judged. “In terms of performance, Leclerc has outperformed him every race this year.”
The proportions in the World Championship are clear to see. Whereas Leclerc is in third place with 126 points, Sainz is two places below him. Moreover, he still hasn't managed to win a Formula 1 race, although he has come close on a number of occasions.

Sainz has plenty of work ahead of him

Rosberg also sees that Sainz can still improve enough. However, Rosberg does not rule out Sainz ever taking the world title. "He still has to make a lot of progress, which is quite a surprise after last year. Of course, the car is completely different, so maybe he needs more time to master everything."
