Russia wants to hold the Russian Grand Prix at the Sochi Autodrom on September 27th with fans in the stands. The circuit wants to use about 50% of the total capacity.

Races behind closed doors

So far all races have been held behind closed doors in 2020 because of the coronavirus. Formula 1 is in the process of allowing a limited number of fans to join the races and the first opportunity designated by F1 is the Grand Prix of Tuscany, which will be held at Mugello for the first time this year.

Tickets already on sale

Russia is the first race for which tickets are actually sold. The promoters of the race want to fill about 50% of the stands, which means a total of about 30,000 fans.

"For three months we have not been engaged in ticket sales at all. Now they are slowly resuming, taking into account the government's announcement that the race will take place, and with our recent announcement of the entertainment program", said promoter Alexey Titov to Motorsport.com.

Half of normal

"At the moment, we’re discussing the figure of 50% of the total capacity of the Olympic Park - that is, our stands and the Olympic Park as a whole. This will mean that the maximum number of fans will be no more than 30,000 to 32,000", says Titov.
Titov does emphasize that there will be no activities around the circuit, such as the pitwalk. Signature sessions will also be absent. "In the near future, we will definitely announce how we will replace this part of the entertainment program", concludes Titov.
