George Russell is targeting battling the cars ahead of them during the Mexican Grand Prix as he looks for another solid race for Williams. Russell has failed to score a point for the uncompetitive team this season, but his results have been impressive, and it would be another feather in his cap if he was able to duel it out with either Haas or Alfa Romeo in Mexico.
Russell qualified in his usual 19th for the race at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez and will be looking to get off the line well and potentially challenge Romain Grosjean and Kevin Magnussen in the Haas cars into turn one.
Russell said after qualifying: “It was really tricky out there for everybody, but I was pleased with the lap.
“There was still a bit more in there, but we are definitely going in the right direction.
“I think our long run pace is better than our single lap pace, especially versus the Haas cars and the Alfa Romeos, so we will have to see what we can do tomorrow.”
