George Russell has said that Lando Norris' deal with McLaren was benifical for him getting his drive for Williams.
McLaren signed Lando Norris way back in September and at that time Norris only had one Formula 2 victory compared to Russell's five. Russell went on to win the title.
"Lando’s announcement so early helped me to push Williams for my drive," Russell said to motorsportweek.com
The young Brit explained "If I was ahead of him in the championship and McLaren believed he was worthy of a Formula 1 seat it showed there was some great signs for myself."
"And it probably added more pressure for Williams to say we’ve got to go with George because he’s the guy who is winning F2."

Russell ended the Formula 2 championship 68 points ahead of Norris and won the title after seven races much like Leclerc and Vandoorne did.
Fans are looking forward to seeing a new breed of drivers compete in 2019.
